ROVER RUCKUS

2018-2019 Rookie Season

This year was our rookie season as an FTC team. Only one member has ever done FTC before, and the rest of us were new to FTC. There were many challenges and hardships along the way. Despite the challenges, we still had an unforgettable season. We did a lot better than any of us had expected. We made it to the NorCal Regional Championships. Take a look at the highlights of the season.

OUR ROBOT

This year, we went with a two part intake and deposit system for most of the year. We switched to a single arm for the regionals. Our Tele-op was not very strong. In Tele-Op, we usually only scored about 4-8 minerals inside the lander which was 40-80 points. We could do everything in autonomous which was 80 points in addition to latch on and hang in the end which is 50 points. We heavily relied on these two things throughout the season.

WALNUT CREEK QUALIFIER

In this qualifying tournament, we finished at 7th place after all the matches were over. Team 10917 ninja-te.ch picked us during alliance selections as the second seed. We lost the first match after a scoring error was fixed, won the second match by a close margin, and lost the third match by a close margin. In the same tournament, we got the Connect award for our outreach.

NAPA QUALIFIER

This was a very competitive tournament, as it was the last qualifier for the season. Everyone fought for the last few spots to the Regional Championships. One of our main drivers was missing, so we had to adapt and another member had to learn. We finished at 10th place after all of the rounds. Team 9614 Hyperion picked us as the 4th seed alliance second pick. We won the semifinals 2-1 and lost the finals 2-0. We qualified through this tournament to Regional Championships through the lottery.

NORCAL REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

This was a very unique experience for all of us. Even though many of us had been to regionals in FLL, this was a unique experience. Everyone was a lot more competitive. There were 56 teams total, and 2 divisions. WE had many problems with our robot. Our arm fell off during a match. We finished at 10th place overall after winning 3 matches and losing 2.
